Day 37 Townsville to Rollingstone Beach

We took our time packing up and headed north to Rollingstone Beach which is about halfway between Townsville and Ingham.

Rollingstone has a lovely beach front park, and we were able to get a beach front spot. Great view but the high tide comes right into the sea wall, so you get a lot of splash onto the grass at times. We were there for 3 days and even though the weather is a bit cloudy it is still nice and warm.

Headed up to Ingham for a drive and on the way, we called in to the Paluma National Park for a look. First road was the Mt Spec Road that goes to Little Crystal Creek and beyond. Beautiful Creek but the road is narrow and on the side of the range. It was built in the 1930's when the depression was at its height and it felt quite dangerous, but they still let full size buses on the road and we happen to meet one coming the other way, Luckily, we were able to back up and pull off to the side but not before I had to get out and go back to check there was no one coming around the corner.

We made it back to the main road and moved onto Big Crystal Creek . This is also a great spot and there is a campground attached to it . I wish it had been a nice warm day as it would ahve been a great plac e to go for a swim.

Left this behind and travelled to Ingham - had a wander around town (bought back memories for Russ when he was working up here) and grabbed a bite to eat at the Majestic Cafe. Judging by the locals coming in and out it was the place to be.

Stooped at the shop at Rollingstone on the way back and grabbed a couple of pineapples - they are harvesting at the moment so they were fresh off the farm. Very nice!

Spent our last day by walking down to Balgal Beach at low tide having a swim and just enjoying the beach, Balgal Beach has a small government owned campground but when we looked it was booked out. Seemed tox be a few spaces available when we looked!
