Part 2 Eastern Loop Day 1 Bendigo to Merriwagga
Today we started part 2 of our amazing adventure. Left Bendigo round 8.30 heading north, First stop was the weighbridge at Rochester and yes we were underweight. Russ very happy!!!!
Originally we were going to come up through Hay to Hillston but that all changed when Russ found some good second hand tyres in Griffith. Up through Echuca and across the new bridge which saves you so much time , Deniliquin . Stopped at Colleambally for a quick lunch break and then onto Griffith. Picked up the tyres and up through Goolgowi.
We ended up stopping at a place called Merriwagga just south of Hillston as the free camp site we picked on the Lachlan River was a bit dicey due to the rising river. This is a tiny dot of a town and has this caravan park which has been set up in the old school grounds, What a great place and was only $25 for a powered site - what a bargain! Nice to have the a/c as it was till pretty cold overnight. We ended up having the place to ourselves . Kel was a great host and highly recommend stopping there.
They also have site vans and cabins and the old school house itself is set up as a lounge area for anybody. There is also an old corrugated iron cottage that is set up as a museum - all interesting to have a look at.
The country looks very good as there seems to have been lots of rain - I have never seen so many emus before and there was a lot of roadkill - so different to the west.
Tomorrow we head for Bourke.
