Day 9 Betoota to Birdsville

After travelling to Betoota, we decided to leave the van there and go out to Birdsville for the day. Left early and after the 160kms  glad we made that decision. Saved us a fair bit of fuel as well.

Again we couldn't believe how green it is around the area even to the point where there are very few people camped out on the town common as it looks very wet. Plenty in the caravan park .

There was a bit of carnage around with 2 very sick looking vehicles on the back of a truck and a couple of sad looking caravans . Someone didn't have a very good day!

I think we did what everyone else does - first stop is the bakery with a sausage roll and a curried camel pie. Then out to Big Red and little Red to climb the hills.

It was a very different sight to when the Big Red Bash is on - amazing how 15.000 people will change things around!!

Watch a couple of people go up and then it was tyres pressures down and away you go. I think it was harder for me to climb the hill to film Russ driving up then it was for him to actually do it!

Also did Little Red over and back - again no worries.

Back to town for lunch at the iconic Birdsville Pub. Again was pretty quiet but we enjoyed the burger and chips . Bit of a story - just as we were pulling up this guy comes out and asks us not to park there as Ray Martin was flying in to do a story , had to keep that space vacant.

His plane didn't actually arrive till we were just about to leave so we didn't get to see him.

It was time to head back to Betoota for our final stay . Another clear night to watch a great desert sunset.

Tomorrow we head back to Windorah to set up camp on Coopers Creek.
