Day 63 = 64 Lake Argyle to Edith Falls Free Camp and Adelaide River

Left Lake Argyle bright and early heading east to the Northern Territory. This road goes through Gregory National park - again looks spectacular but unfortunately we didn't have the time to look around as we headed towards Darwin . Its named after Augustus Gregory who was part of the Northern Australian Expedition who explored this area around 1855. You can drive off the main raid and have a look at the Gregory Tree which is  a large boab that has the dates they were there recorded on it.

Quick stop in Katherine ( we will be back later on the way to Alice) and then found a free camp spot on the road to Edith Falls, Still very hot so a bit of an uncomfortable night.

Next morning was short drive up the road via Pine Creek to our next stop Adelaide River. It is quite a busy place as it has a pub and a caravan park with fuel etc . It has connections to Crocodile Dundee as the buffalo they used in that famous scene was a pet at the pub. Unfortunately he has passed on but they kindly had him stuffed and he now sits a top the bar at one end, We sat out in the beer garden had lunch.

On a more serious note , Adelaide River has a war cemetery that provides lots of history of the service men and woman and the bombing of the area by the japanese in WW2 . It is a beautiful garden and lovingly looked after by the curators.

We stayed out at the showgrounds for the night - power water and even a swimming pool. They also have a bar and offer meals . Starting to get busy as we are seeing a lot more vans etc on the road especially from QLD .

Tomorrow Darwin and a catch up with some of the Epsom crowd .
