Day 61 Kunnunurra to Lake Argyle
Its just a short tip today ( about 70Kms) . We are going to spend a couple of days at Lake Argyle getting a different perspective. Its a very busy place with lots of coming and going. After setting up , we headed off down Jesse's trail which is a steep walk down to waters edge where you can take a dip in the lake. They say there are about 35000 freshies in here so not a lot of interest in swimming at Bamboo Pontoon. We were very brave and got in deep enough to get wet and then got out again so we could say we have swum in there.
After the climb back, the reward was a dip in the infinity pool that is supposedly one of the top 10 pools in Australia. You always see it featured in anything about Lake Argyle. It is beautiful but you are often sharing it with 20 other people so not so serene. Great view though!
I think the main reason people seem to come here is to go for a cruise on the lake and/or to get their photo taken in the infinity pool. Our choice was a sunset cruise around the northern part . Its hard to explain just how big it is with estimates ranging from 23 times to 30 times the size of Sydney Harbour depending on the time of the year so really big! Caught the bus down to the boat ramp then off on our cruise . The skipper took us around to check out some rock wallabies then down to a group of islands called the BBQ islands ( called that because there used to be bbq 's there. Most people were keen to spot a croc and I think they have a regular that knows the boat will be there at a certain time. They don't give it any food but as soon as we tuned up it headed towards us. They do feed the fish right there so this croc doesn't have to try very hard to catch a feed, Once that was done , it was onto a mooring spot to watch the sun go down. If you like you can jump in and have a swim ( noodles provided ) and a glass of champagne or beer is provided along with a choice of non-alcoholic drinks. Great to be having a glass of bubbly and watching yet another beautiful sunset. Headed back to port in the coolness of the night which was wonderful,
Treated ourselves to a meal at the pub and sat and listened to some live music . The young guy was from Gippsland - really good.
Tomorrow an early start as we leave WA and head into the Northern Territory - that's a hour and a half that we will lose. We have a couple of nights to get to Darwin so not sure where we will be staying.
