Day 24 Whale Shark Day
So it’s the big day – swimming with whale sharks off Ningaloo Reef, The day started early with a 7ish bus pick up for a 30min drive to the harbour to board. Once you’re on board, you get fitted up with a wetsuit and snorkel gear if you need it. Some bring their own. The day starts with a morning snorkel inside the reef so you get used to everything. When you’re finished its morning tea and the spotter planes are up looking for our sharks. When they are spotted , you hightail it out to the deeper water just outside the reef and they move the boats around as the fish swim past. It has a certain routine to it as you move in and out the water . You jump in , the team get you in a line and you just swim beside it for as long as you can and its just rest and repeat and they just keep doing it as long as anyone wants to keep swimming with them and they stick around. They are mostly juvenile males round the 5-8m and they are just cruising!!! Just amazing and awesome to watch. It was just so good. I did manage to take some go pro footage which we will post asap but also have a photographer on board so got some of her photos and the video of the day. A Lot more professional than mine!
Beautiful lunch then back inside the reef for some more
afternoon snorkeling. There was a bit of a swell coming in from the north, so
some found the going a bit much when we were out in the deep water. Much calmer
inside the reef. As we were heading back came across a 3-4m tiger shark or
stripeys as they call them , Glad it wasn’t around earlier! Back to harbour and
a very quiet ride home as I think everyone was stuffed, Such a great
day………………………………………………………………….
