Day 5 Fowlers Bay SA to Cocklebiddy WA
Left Fowlers Bay bright and early today as the wind once again started to pick up . Luckily it had died down during the night so most were able to get some sleep. Helen took her first turn behind the wheel today and drove to Nullabor ( 144K) . Russ had a chance to look around for a change and even took a few photos for the blog. Just a quick stop to share a ham and cheese toastie and on our way to Eucla. The highway comes very close to the coast along this stretch so this is where we had hoped to camp but again the weather played a part - very windy and at times showering so we just made a couple of stops along here to check out the amazing Bunda Cliffs ( Great Australian Bight ). Always spectacular !
Onto Border village for quarantine inspection and to have our border passes checked out . Luckily did them before we left home as it was a bit like you were trying to enter a foreign country. No fruit ,veges , seeds or honey . There is always a big box sitting at the station full of containers of honey - wonder what they do with it all ?
Got a tip from another traveler not to fuel up at Border Village , go to Eucla - it was still $2.69.
We had planned to stay at the telegraph station camping area but wind, rain and cold chased us away. Russ had planned to stay and do some fishing here . another place and time . Telegraph station is gradually disappearing under the sand so glad to have visited,
The day rolled on at we finished up at a place called the "Big Van Turnaround" outside of Cocklebiddy.
Very serene with ono one there but us.
Lots of storms around us but we only got a few spots overnight and the occasional rumble of thunder .

It’s a shame the weather was a bit ordinary. Glad to hear that you have done some driving H.😀
